Pangolins Are Scaled Mammals That Eat with No Teeth

The only mammals covered head-to-tail in overlapping keratin scales, giving them an almost pinecone or artichoke-like appearance. They walk on their knuckles, have tiny pointed faces, and can curl into a tight armored ball when threatened. With no teeth, they rely on a long, sticky tongue, sometimes longer than their body, to slurp up ants and termites. They’re shy, nocturnal, and sadly one of the most illegally trafficked animals on the planet.
